Pregnancy tips: Folate, a strong ingredient in supporting your baby’s growing nutrient needs!
According to health practitioners, adequate folate intake is extremely important during periods of rapid growth such as pregnancy, infancy, and adolescence.
If you do not get enough folate before and during pregnancy, your baby is at higher risk for neural tube defects. Neural tube defects are serious birth defects that affect the spine, spinal cord, or brain.
The recommended daily amount of folate for adults is 400 micrograms (mcg), but adult women who are planning pregnancy or could become pregnant should be advised to get 400 to 800 mcg of folate a day.
