Should women be allowed to practice Polygamy?

Though a couple of eyebrows were raised when Solomon Ogar, a renowned media practitioner, made a case for women to be allowed to practice polygamy, it might surprise you to know that the practice is not in some parts of the world.                                                                                                                        In August 2013, a case of polyandry where two men decided to be husbands to one woman was widely reported in Kenya. It was reported that because Kenyan laws don’t explicitly forbid polyandry, legal actions could not be taken against the trio.

There have also been reported cases of polyandry among the Massai people of Kenya Polyandry is a form of polygamy in which a woman takes two or more husbands at the same time. Also, fraternal polyandry is practiced among Tibetans in Nepal, parts of China and part of northern India, in which two or more brothers are married to the same wife, with the wife having equal “sexual access” to them.

While this unnatural practice may abound in other parts of the world, we at Plustra beauty believe that it should not be allowed to creep into our country. There’s no Nigerian culture or ethnic group that accepts polyandry. Legislations should be introduced to prohibit polyandry in Nigeria. Once, Mr Oga has muted the idea, we never can act on it in the nearest future.
