Husband and wife sell 8-month-old baby because of iPhone 14

A bizarre case has been reported in the state of Bengal in India where a couple has reportedly sold off their 18-day-old baby to get money to buy an iPhone for creating Instagram content.

According to the Indian Times, the West Bengal Police has arrested the mother for selling their child. However, the father is still on the run.

The incident came to light when concerned neighbours noticed some peculiar changes in the behavior of the family.

The eight-month-old child had been missing for days, but the parents reportedly did not show any signs of concern fuelling the suspicion of neighbours.

Moreover, their sudden purchase of an iPhone 14 further confirmed the suspicion of their neighbours who promptly confronted them.

When confronted, the mother admitted under pressure that she and her husband had sold their child to get money to buy an iPhone to enable them to create Instagram content.

The police have opened a case against the couple, and the woman who bought the child is also facing charges for human trafficking.
