Making bread at home is simple, affordable, and rewarding. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you bake delicious bread using basic ingredients and minimal equipment.
Ingredients:
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 1/4 cups warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
Step 1: Activate the Yeast
- In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This step ensures that the yeast is active.
Step 2: Mix the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Add the activated yeast mixture and oil to the flour.
- Stir until the dough begins to come together. It should be slightly sticky but manageable.
Step 3: Knead the Dough
- Lightly flour a clean surface and transfer the dough onto it.
