  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This step ensures that the yeast is active.

Step 2: Mix the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  2. Add the activated yeast mixture and oil to the flour.
  3. Stir until the dough begins to come together. It should be slightly sticky but manageable.
